Michael J. Skwierawski
Welcome to the tribute page honoring the remarkable life of Judge Michael Skwierawski, a beloved figure whose legacy profoundly shaped the city of Milwaukee. Judge Skwierawski's passing on March 8th, 2024, marked the end of an era for the community he served tirelessly as a judge, leader, and dedicated citizen. Born on October 19th, 1942, in West Allis, he epitomized the values instilled in him through his Catholic upbringing, graduating from esteemed institutions such as Marquette University and Georgetown University Law School.
His career as a Milwaukee County Circuit Court judge spanned 25 years, during which he presided over numerous significant cases, including the well-known Lawrencia Bembenek murder trial. Even after retiring from the bench in 2003, Judge Skwierawski continued to contribute to the community as a respected mediator in commercial disputes.
Beyond his professional accomplishments, Judge Skwierawski was a man of many talents and passions. From his love of sports to his musical abilities, he lived life with an unwavering intensity, always supported by his devoted wife, Gloria. He was instrumental in various community initiatives, leaving an indelible mark on projects like the Milwaukee Justice Center, which provides vital legal assistance to thousands of Milwaukeeans annually.
Judge Skwierawski's family was the cornerstone of his life, and he leaves behind a legacy of love and dedication cherished by his wife, children, grandchildren, and extended family. His memory will endure through the lives he touched and the causes he championed.
A Celebration of Judge Skwierawski's life will be held on Thursday, April 18th, at the Polish Center of Wisconsin, where friends and admirers can pay their respects and reflect on his remarkable contributions to the city. In lieu of flowers, donations to organizations close to his heart, such as the Milwaukee Justice Center, the Conservancy for Healing and Heritage, or the Polish Center of Wisconsin, are appreciated.
