About the event

During this celebration brunch, The 2024 We are the Drum Award recipients and

qualifying high school graduates who were cast members with the We are the Drum

Production will be honored.

Our distinguished We are The Drum Award recipients for 2024 are:

Dr. Eve Hall, Milwaukee Urban League

Mr. Earl Ingram, Voices of the Elders

Mr. Andre Lee Ellis, The CAGE Milwaukee

Mr. Victor Barnett, Running Rebels

Alderwoman Milele Coggs, Community Builder in Bronzeville

Mr. Ralph Hollmon, Esteemed Community Leadership

The selection process is in progress for the scholarship recipients and will be disclosed

later.

What is the We are the Drum Award?

Established in 2022, the We are the Drum Award was created to honor worthy

individuals who are doing exceptional work in researching, preserving, and uplifting

African American History and offering programming to enrich the lives of African

Americans in our city and state. The first group of award recipients were acknowledged

in 2023: Mr. Clayborn Benson of the Wisconsin Black Historical Society, Mr. Reginald

Jackson, The ReDress Movement and Nurturing Diversity Partners, Ms. Lynda Jackson-

Conyers, The Milwaukee Times and Black Excellence Awards, and Mr. Reuben

Harpole, Community Griot and Historian.

The Arlene Skwierawski Scholarship Fund

This scholarship was established in memory of the late Arlene Skwierawski.The

Scholarship Fund is managed by CAPITA Productions, Inc. which was co-founded by

Arlene Skwierawski while she served as the music and performing arts teacher at North

Division High School of Milwaukee and the late Brother Booker Ashe (House of Peace)

in 1990.

The scholarship fund will benefit graduating seniors who have performed with the We

are the Drum Production and have a qualifying academic profile. The first recipient of

the Arlene Skwierawski scholarship was awarded in 2023.

Use of Event Proceeds

Proceeds from this event will help to sustain the Arlene Skwierawski Scholarship Fund

so that we can mirror the legacy of Ms. Skwierawski for years to come.
